Fourth of July

Second 4th of July with LB and FIRST one with Luke. How amazing! We had a great day with the kids, of course in the pool most of the day. Thanks be to God for the two most amazing children that we were lucky enough to be blessed with. Tomorrow we are looking for palm trees for the back yard landscape and hopefully getting some rest. Happy 4th!

Frazzled for LB

My sister said today on the phone that I sounded different. Well, I do. For the first time since we have been foster parents I can't take my poor daughter's pain any longer. When we first got her I could watch the IV's and the tests and the grueling botox injections in her hands and legs... after this week I can take it no longer.

Monday the temporary Nurse "accidentally put her meds into her balloon port. Really? The balloon obviously exploded and we had to put a new Mickey button in. I checked it for residual like always, checked the balloon, added 5 cc's of saline and went on about the day. The next morning I found her awake and in bed as usual with her feeding line AND MICKEY button next to her in bed. A chill went over my body thinking first of how long it had been out. I couldn't get anything back into the stoma!

The trip to the ER was frantic and seemed like I'd never get there. By 2 pm they had finally gotten a 6 Foley in place of the 14 French. By Wednesday the Foley was clogged and then we were on our way to Cook's for another Mickey placement in General Surgery. I thought when they mentioned surgery they meant they'd give her drugs before they shoved that button in again. NOPE! I couldn't believe it. They expanded that hole from a 6 to a 14 and put a new Mini button in.

This morning, the new nurse, the one that we really like... she was feeding Selena and hooking her up to the line and somehow Selena's spasticity kicked in. The nurse had a hold of the button and Selena didn't sit still and yep, you guessed it, the button came out! Sheer terror was on my face I am sure. I couldn't believe it happened! Thanks to the Nurse, she calmly placed another new Mickey into her stoma and we got LB calmed down. Good God, I can't handle it.

This poor child has been through SOOOOOO much already, I ache for her when she has to go through anymore. Please God, spare her from anymore pain and just let her have a happy pain free life from now on. I am certain that Selena is a Saint sent from heaven to show us how strong she is. A pure miracle to even be on this Earth and doing so well at that. I don't know what I did to deserve even the honor of adopting her but I am sure she will never know how much we love her.

On a happier note, I went shopping with Neece this morning and just happen to fall upon a step stool for Luke for the bathroom. It is perfect! Two steps painted light blue with a dragon fly on the first step and a lady bug on the botton step. I think Uncle Christian will have to paint thier names on it.

Looking forward to a very uneventful and healthy holiday weekend!
